Let’s Look at the Rules of Scrabble
Scrabble can be played with two to four players. The idea of the game is for you to score more points when compared to everyone else who is playing. As words are placed on the board, you will collect points. Every letter will have a different point value.
The main strategy is for you to achieve the highest score you can based on the letters that you have.

Starting the Game
To start a game Scrabble you need to put your hand in the bag without looking at any tiles. You will then take a single tile. The player that has the tile that is closest to the letter A then goes first. Every player will start by drawing a total of 7 tiles from the bag.
When you have your tiles, you can either put down a word, get some new tiles or even pass altogether. In most cases, it helps to put a word down because the other options won’t give you any kind of score value. When you do exchange your tile, you can change one single tile or you can change all of them. When you have exchanged your tiles, you will then not be allowed to go again until it is your turn.
The Scrabble Board
A standard board for Scrabble will have cells that are in a huge grid. The board, as standard, is 15 cells high and then 15 cells wide. The tiles are designed so that they fit into the cells easily, making it very convenient for you to line up your words. There are 100 tiles in the game and 98 of them will have a point value and a letter on them. The two blank tiles can be used as any letter you want. When you enter a blank letter in the game, you should know that it will stay in the game as the letter that it has been substituted for. Different letters in the game will have various point values, but blank tiles will have a value of zero.
Tile/Letter Values
- A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T and U = 1 Point
- Blank tiles = 0 Points
- D and G = 2 Points
- B, C, M and P = 3 Points.
- F, H, V, W and Y = 4 Points
- K = 5 Points
- J and X = 8 Points
- Q and Z = 10 Points
Scoring extra points
When you take a look at the board, you will see that some bonus squares will give you some kind of multiplier. If a tile is placed on any square like this then the value will be multiplied by up to 3x.
Some squares will also times the total of the word, and not the single tile. There are double letter scores, which are normally indicated by light blue cells and the triple letter score is a dark blue cell. Light red indicates a double word score, with dark red showing a triple word score.
This is where you are going to be making most of your points, as the total value will be boosted dramatically. Tiles like this are normally placed on all four sides of the board.
